KIGS

Research

KIGS has evolved its own system of evaluation of the programmes started in the rural areas. In this way we enable ourselves to improve and act on reliable information.

This is due to the developing trend in which Institutes for higher education are financed to some degree by the private sector. As such, it is not surprising that many research departments are working, consciously or unconsciously, on an agenda that at least correlates nicely with that of those same private interests. It has always been this institute’s aim to free rural research from any possibility of contamination through contact with parties with vested interests. This is why we undertake our own research programmes, which exist with the sole aim of establishing what the prevailing issues in these areas are, why they have come about, and what can be done to alleviate problems. This means we tend to find that sustainable solutions are the most appropriate, whereas institutionalized surveys may tend to recommend more advanced, ‘high-tech’ solutions.

Our studies have been directly or indirectly associated with evaluating development programmes, women development at grassroots level, health, education and clinical services, integrated development of selected groups in rural areas, and extension, publicizing and training villagers in rural techniques. There follows an exhaustive list of the research work undertaken by the institute since its inception in 1967.
